There is a new entrance to the Clark County Jail Work Center facility. Traffic must use NW Gateway Avenue from Lower River Road (SR501). Direction signs to the Jail Work Center (JWC) facility are posted on NW Gateway Avenue.
The Clark County Jail Work Center facility, also known as the JWC, is a minimum security facility that uses direct supervision of inmates who meet specific low risk criteria. Unlike maximum security at the Main Jail, JWC inmates are allowed freedom of movement and activity in the facility and on the grounds.
A major focus of the facility is to allow inmates the opportunity to repay the community in a work setting. Inmates are either working in an existing job in the community while serving their time in the Work Release program or are placed on one of the Jail Industries work crews; kitchen, laundry, grounds, janitorial or industry and are under the direction of custody staff or supervisors.
The Clark County Jail Work Center facility opened in April of 2000, is on 18.3 acres and has three buildings; In-Custody, Work Release, and the Kitchen and Warehouse. The In-Custody and Work Release buildings are housing units, In-Custody has 124 beds and Work Release has 100 beds. The Kitchen and Warehouse building contains food and laundry service equipment and a Jail Industries warehouse.
The JWC provides food and laundry services to the three Clark County correctional facilities; Main Jail, JWC and Juvenile Detention. Food services produces upwards of 3100 meals a day. Laundry Services processes over ½ million pounds of laundry a year. The Jail Industries warehouse was utilized by the C.R.E.A.M. program, a computer and electronic recycling program that responsibly recycled and reused computer and electronic equipment donated by businesses, persons and organizations. Jail Industries no longer offers the C.R.E.A.M. program, effective November 27, 2008. Information for other recycling locations can be found at: www.clark.wa.gov/recycle/recyclingA-Z.html.
