The Assessor is responsible for keeping accurate and complete records of lands within the county for tax purposes. Parcel maps are created and maintained on the county's computerized Geographic Information System (GIS), including the most current recorded documents, such as excises, deeds, real estate contracts and fulfillment deeds, subdivisions, short plats, and various court documents. Appropriate changes to the Assessor's database are made, including parcel acreage and ownership.
Other responsibilities include processing requested land combinations, segregations, and boundary line adjustments. Maps are also maintained for the current use program, tax code district boundaries are updated to reflect annexations, and research is conducted on foreclosure properties.
