Animal Protection and Control

Domestic animals enrich the lives of many Clark County residents. However, if not cared for properly, these animals can also be disruptive to a neighborhood. Animal Protection and Control can help resolve animal control problems such as stray or vicious animals, noise complaints and reports of animal cruelty.

Our territory covers more than 600 square miles, from Woodland to Washougal. We serve all unincorporated county areas as well as Vancouver.We serve Yacolt, La Center and Ridgefield by request.

We protect the safety and well-being of people and animals by:

• Enforcing local animal control laws related to licensing and vaccination requirements, loose and/or vicious animals, animal cruelty and nuisances.
• Responding to citizen complaints to resolve animal code violations.
• Encouraging cooperation between animal owners and their neighbors.
• Providing emergency transportation and shelter for stray, injured and abandoned animals.
• Promoting responsible pet ownership through pet management (wmv video), pet licensing, spay and neuter education, seasonal tips (summer/winter) and answering frequently asked questions.
• Providing dog bite prevention training to children and community groups.
• Providing public safety and community livability through an increased animal control presence.
• Developing policy and procedures for the delivery of animal control services with assistance from our Animal Protection and Control Advisory Board.
• Providing guidance for living with coyotes.
