Vision of District Court
Make a positive difference in people’s lives by intervening before irreversible damage occurs to the person or the community.
About the District Court
District Court is the court of limited jurisdiction. It serves as the trial court for misdemeanors and infractions as well as small claims and civil law suits involving amounts up to $75,000.
There is a high volume of cases filed in District Court every year. In 2011, approximately 59,625 cases were filed, of which, 71% were comprised of traffic related offenses. Traffic offenses generally affect a person’s driving privileges and are cyclical in nature, so it is necessary that proceedings are fair and expeditious. To further assist the public, alternative programs were developed, such as: the Therapeutic Court Programs, the Driver’s License Restoration program, and Night Court.
