Following are descriptions of the various types of employment services available in Clark County:
Individual Supported Employment
Individual supported employment establishes employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in local business or industry on a one-person/one job basis on jobs at or above minimum wage. A trained employment specialist assists the individual in finding or developing a job and assists with training the individual, employer, and co-workers. In most instances, the employment specialist is available to provide ongoing support for the individual on the job.
Individual supported employment continues to be the preferred employment option for the county. It is the most requested service and the priority for county funding. Wages tend to be higher and opportunities for inclusion greatest in this type of employment service.
Group Supported Employment
Group supported employment services mainly consist of evening janitorial work in which a group of individuals perform work tasks within a host company in the community. An agency provides supports to the individuals and works with the company. A trained supervisor is always at the work site. Payment for work performed is time-studied to be commensurate with pay to others in the local job market and is most often established under minimum wage.
