Chelatchie Prairie Railroad
The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad is a 33-mile short line railroad located in Clark County, Washington. The line is owned by Clark County and is also known as the Lewis and Clark Railroad or the Clark County Railroad.
The operating and maintenance responsibilities for the line are leased out under long-term operating contracts to two different railroad operators. On the line segment from Heisson to the south, the Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad is responsible for freight operations. At present, this line segment serves the only active freight shippers on the railroad. On the line north of Heisson, the Battle Ground, Yacolt, and Chelatchie Prairie Railroad Association (which is a volunteer group) is operating a passenger excursion program originating in Yacolt.
The rehabilitation project from the WSDOT Rail Emergent Grant of 1.1 million dollars was completed in April 2009.
Public meetings
The Railroad Advisory Board meets the second Monday of each month at 4 p.m. in the sixth-floor Training Room, of the Public Services Center at 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver.
