Vancouver, WA – The arrival of nice weather always means more people, and their dogs, visiting Clark County’s many parks and trails. Here are some important facts you should know about your local leash and scoop laws before packing up your favorite pooch and heading out.

• You may walk your dog on a leash at any public park, trail or ball field.

• Dogs are not allowed to be off the leash at any Clark County park, trail or ball field except the following two off-leash dog parks:
The Ross Complex
Northeast Ross Street at 18th Avenue near Bonneville Power’s Ross Substation near Hazel Dell

Pacific Community Park (opens June 2008)
Northeast 18th Street at 164th Avenue near east Vancouver
Note: A temporary dog park is currently available on Northeast 172nd Avenue at Fifth Street until the Pacific Park site opens this summer.

The county recognizes the importance of providing additional off-leash dog parks to serve our citizens. We are currently working with Clark County DOGPAW, a local non-profit group, to open more dog parks. For more information about these efforts, please visit this website: http://www.clarkdogpaw.org/

• You must always pick up and dispose of your dog’s feces when you visit any public park, trail, or ball field, including the off-leash dog parks.

• People who do not honor the leash and scoop laws may be fined up to $250.

Be safe, be courteous to others, and have fun!
