Vancouver, WA – Neighbors are invited to attend the official dedication of Sgt. Brad Crawford Neighborhood Park on Saturday, October 11.

The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at noon. A free community picnic will immediately follow the ceremony.

The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will occur in the park, rain or shine. If it rains, the picnic portion of the event will move to the Family of Christ Lutheran Church on Northwest 129th Street at 36th Avenue. Sgt. Brad Crawford Neighborhood Park is located on Northwest 131st Street at 47th Avenue in Felida.

Construction of the first phase of this 2.5-acre neighborhood park began in April 2008, and was substantially complete earlier this month. The previously undeveloped site now features trails, a playground, open lawn play areas, picnic tables, benches and landscaping.

Clark County used donations from local residents and businesses to build some additional park features, including the ocean-washed concrete plaza, benches, and some of the trees. The Felida Neighborhood Association and The Parks Foundation continue to accept donations for the remaining memorial features, including a formal entry with plaques telling Sgt. Crawford’s story, boulder seating areas, and additional playground features. To donate to the park fund, please contact the Felida Neighborhood Association at (360) 573-4030, or contact The Parks Foundation at (360) 693-7050.

Sgt. Brad Crawford worked for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for eight years before he was killed in the line of duty in 2004. He lived in the Felida neighborhood, and was very active in his community and church. The park was named in his honor in 2005.

Sgt. Brad Crawford Neighborhood Park is the 12th neighborhood park completed as part of the Greater Clark Parks District program, and was one of five parks that started construction this year.

Design and construction of the park was funded by park impact fees, which are paid whenever a new residential property is developed, and the real estate excise tax, which is paid whenever property is sold. Maintenance of the completed park will be funded by the Greater Clark Parks District, a special district approved and funded by voters in the unincorporated urban area of Clark County in 2005.

For more information about this event, please call (360) 397-6118 ext. 4949 or 4398, or visit the project Web page: http://www.clarkparks.org/projects/crawford.htm
