Design begins on first segment of Chelatchie Prairie Rail with Trail Project; Open house Aug. 13
Vancouver, WA – Clark County Public Works and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation will host a public open house on Aug. 13 about the first segment of the Chelatchie Prairie Rail with Trail corridor to be developed. The open house will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground.
The 2.7-mile trail section is from Fairgrounds Park in Battle Ground to N.E. 249th Street near Battle Ground Lake State Park. The project is based on extensive public input gathered for the Chelatchie Prairie Rail with Trail Corridor Study completed in 2008.
Plans call for a 10- to 12-foot wide, paved multi-use trail and an adjacent four- to six-foot wide natural equestrian trail. The equestrian trail will be built in partnership with local equestrian and hiking groups. Construction is scheduled to begin no later than spring 2011, after the design and permitting process is completed.
The informal open house will give interested residents and trail users an opportunity to learn more, review and comment on the preliminary plans and talk with staff.
Design and construction is being funded by a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, regional real estate excise taxes, a Federal Transportation Enhancement grant and the Clark County Road Fund.
