South Interceptor Repair -
Grand Boulevard and NE 5th Street

The two sections of an aging sewer line have been replaced, and this project is almost done except for some additional paving, which will require two days of favorable weather. If weather conditions cooperate, the entire project is expected to be completed over the next few weeks. In the meantime, drivers should continue to be alert to flaggers and anticipate some minor delays.

Cascade Park Project: Streets near and along SE McGillivray Boulevard, between SE 118th Court to about SE 125th Avenue

Construction progresses on the Cascade Park Project, which includes improvements for sanitary sewer, stormwater and pavement. A Sewer Connection Incentive Program (SCIP) project, this work includes installation of about 9,000 feet of sanitary sewer main line, as well as 50 feet of storm main and new asphalt surfacing. Work continues on McGillivray Blvd, between SE Chkalov Dr and SE Talton Ave, to allow for the installation of a new sewer main and laterals. During working hours, generally 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., two-way traffic will be maintained on McGillivray although short delays should be expected. During non-working hours one lane eastbound will be closed for safety. Drivers should expect lane shifts, lane closures, flaggers, workers and equipment in the roadway, and areas of the road surface will be rocked. The work is scheduled to take several months, including trench paving when favorable weather conditions allow. Final grinding and paving will occur in the spring; the entire project is expected to be complete in May 2012.

Wind Tower Travel: West Mill Plain Boulevard and Washington Street

Motorists in downtown Vancouver are advised to be mindful of oversized wind tower components periodically traveling on city streets from the Port of Vancouver to wind farm projects in the Columbia River Gorge. During the weekend and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, wind tower components are permitted to travel along West Mill Plain Boulevard to Washington Street, where they turn south to continue onto SR-14.

Waterfront Access Project: West Sixth/Seventh Street Connector, between Jefferson Street and Grant Street

The West Sixth/Seventh Street connector is closed to traffic west of Grant Street and east of Jefferson Street for a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Project, the first phase of the Vancouver Waterfront Access Project to reconnect the community's downtown area with the Columbia River waterfront. During this Railway Phase, Nutter Construction, contractor for BNSF, is reconstructing the main rail line from Columbia Street to Jefferson Street, including bridge structures at Esther and Grant streets. Total project involves road, rail and utility improvements, including reconstruction of the BNSF railway berm in downtown Vancouver and extension of Esther and Grant streets under the rail line. The West Sixth/Seventh Street connector closure is expected to be in place for all general traffic until fall 2013. Additional temporary closures and traffic changes can be expected as work progresses. Closures will be posted and notice will be provided in advance. www.cityofvancouver.us/WaterfrontAccess
