NE 10th Avenue, NE 141st Street to NE 149th Street

Major construction is starting on this project. The road remains open to local residents, but drivers should expect delays and avoid the construction zone, if possible.

NE Timmen Road/10th Avenue, from NE Fifth Street to NW La Center Road

Major construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 17, when the contractor starts crushing the roadway. During construction, the road will be closed to through traffic and open only to local traffic. Those who must drive on the road should expect delays and rough road conditions. All through traffic should detour onto Interstate 5.

NE 119th Street/NE 50th Avenue Intersection

The intersection at NE 119th Street and NE 50th Avenue is closed to all traffic as part of the intersection improvement project. Access will remain open to local residents with homes in the area, but not to the intersection itself. Drivers may experience intermittent delays from NE 43rd to NE 47th Avenues, and are asked to follow posted detour signs.

NW 179th Street, west of NW 41st Avenue

A section of NW 179th Street remains closed until further notice due to a landslide that is threatening to undermine the north side of the road. Access will remain open to local residents with homes in the area. Other drivers should follow posted detour signs to NW 169th Street, using NW 41st and 51st avenues.

NE 88th Street

NE 88th Street, from Highway 99 to NE 25th Avenue, is largely finished and open to through traffic. Major construction has resumed on the eastern part of the corridor, from NE 25th Avenue to NE St. Johns Road. The road is open only to local traffic. Motorists who must drive in the construction zone should expect delays and rough road conditions. Through traffic should detour to NE 78th Street and avoid road construction altogether.

NE 20th Avenue at NE 144th Street – cable repair

CenturyLink will work in the northbound lanes of NE 20th Avenue at NE 144th Street to repair damaged cable and fiber runs. Periodic single-lane closures may create minor traffic delays in the project area.

NW McCann Road, from NW 36th Avenue to NW 48th Street, and NW 131st Street – gas line installation

Contractors will install a new gas line along NW McCann Road, from NW 36th Avenue to approximately NW 48th Avenue, and along NE 131st Street. Drivers may experience minor delays. Construction is expected to be completed in late July.

NE 78th Street at 66th Avenue, west of Andresen Road, and Highway 99 at 86th Street – utility work

Contractors will work on sewer lines on NE 78th Street at 66th Avenue, west of Andresen Road and along NE Highway 99 at 86th Street. There will be minor traffic interruptions in these areas.

NE 50th Avenue, from NE 99th Street to NE 102nd Street – sidewalk project

Sidewalk construction is wrapping up, with only some remaining work near NE 50th Avenue and NE 101st Street. The shoulder of the northbound lane on NE 50th Avenue, from 99th Street to 102nd Street, will remain closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Construction may continue until early July.

Highway 99, from Salmon Creek to south of NE Parkview Drive

One southbound lane of Highway 99 will be closed, from the bridge over Salmon Creek to just south of NE Parkview Drive, for about one month to construct a safety wall. Drivers should be prepared for minor delays through the project area.

2013 Resurfacing Project – Curb Ramp Improvements: Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, East Andresen Road and East 33rd Street

As part of the city’s Pavement Management Program, work is under way to install new intersection curb ramps or retrofit existing curb ramps to meet compliance requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction will occur at Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard between Northeast 116th Avenue and Northeast Park Plaza Drive; East Andresen Road at East Missouri Drive and East Wichita Drive; and East 33rd Street at East P Street, East S Street and Saint Johns Boulevard. Drivers are advised to expect flaggers, lane closures and delays. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting.

Sidewalk Project: Bella Vista Road between Southeast 22nd Street and Southeast 29th Circle

Work is under way to construct new sidewalks along Bella Vista Road to provide better pedestrian access and complete a sidewalk path from McGillivray Boulevard to Southeast 30th Street. The new sidewalk segments will be located on both the east and west sides of Bella Vista Road. On the east, sidewalks will be built between 2207 and 2313 Bella Vista. On the west, sidewalks will be built between 2600 and 2610 Bella Vista, and at 2806 and 2824 Bella Vista, as well. Construction will start with excavation near the south end and progress to the north, with sidewalk installation following after the excavation. Some parking will be restricted, but traffic will be allowed in both directions on Bella Vista Road during construction. Motorists are advised to expect some delays, drive cautiously in the construction zone and watch for flaggers directing traffic. The project should take about two months and is expected to be completed this summer.

Northeast 137th/138th Avenue between Northeast 28th and 49th streets

Construction continues on this major improvement project. When finished, overall improvements will include 1) widened travel lanes with a continuous concrete median and bicycle lanes; 2) new sidewalks, retaining walls, sound walls, storm water drainage improvements, sanitary sewer lines, street lighting, striping and landscaping; and 3) traffic roundabouts where Northeast 137th/138th intersects Northeast 32nd Street (single lane roundabout), Northeast 39th Street (double-lane roundabout), and Northeast 44th Street (single-lane roundabout) to better connect the neighborhood, offer U-turn options for local travel and help manage traffic flow. Construction hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional hours or Saturdays as needed. Drivers are asked to go slow and be alert to traffic changes and construction equipment and workers. Updates on this project will be posted at city's website at www.cityofvancouver.us/137-138Ave. Completion of this major project is currently anticipated for winter 2013.

Waterfront Access Project

On Monday, June 10, West 11th Street was closed at Lincoln Avenue for approximately two months while Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway completes preparations in advance of a future project to construct another set of north-south tracks near the existing tracks. BNSF has hired Kerr Construction for this phase of the work. The BNSF closure will impact the primary route to the Vancouver Amtrak railroad station. During the temporary closure, a detour will be in place utilizing Jefferson, West Eighth and Hill streets. Drivers traveling in this area or accessing the Amtrak station should be prepared for possible delays and stay alert to construction activities.

The rest of the Vancouver Waterfront Access Project to reconnect the community's downtown area with the Columbia River waterfront is well under way while the next roadway phase of the project continues to advance. Esther Street at Phil Arnold Way and Phil Arnold Way have been closed until the project is completed, which is anticipated for late 2013. Access will be maintained to adjacent businesses, and no impacts beyond those already in place are expected to the popular Vancouver Farmer's Market and Esther Short Park events. The permanent closure of Jefferson Street between Eighth and Evergreen is currently anticipated for late summer or early fall 2013, when the new underpass from Sixth/Grant to Seventh/Jefferson is opened. The total Waterfront Access Project involves road, rail and utility improvements, including reconstruction of the BNSF railway berm in downtown Vancouver and extension of Esther and Grant streets under the rail line. Arnold Way, formerly West Fourth Street, between Columbia and Esther streets is closed when necessary during construction. Additional temporary closures and traffic changes can be expected as work progresses. Closures will be posted and notice will be provided in advance. www.cityofvancouver.us/WaterfrontAccess
