The Student Environmental Leadership Forum, SELF 2010, will be held on March 24th at Clark College.
SELF brings environmental professionals and experts together with students for a day of learning sessions focused on leadership and the environment. SELF is open to all high school students in Clark County, WA who are interested in environmental and sustainability issues and want to take action. SELF provides educational and leadership tools to enable students to become active and effective community members.
The 2009 Student Environmental Leadership Forum (SELF), held on March 25, 2009, was a huge success, with over 200 students in attendance from 17 different high schools around Clark County! Students attended three sessions focused on environmental topics in the morning, and two sessions in the afternoon focused on leadership. In the end, students came up with over 20 different action plans to create change at their local community.
Of these plans, we had a number of student groups apply for grants from SELF to fund their projects, and we are happy to announce the funding of these fantastic environmental action projects that will take place around Clark County this spring and summer:
Camas High School- Envirosculpt Recycled Products Sculpture
Summit View High School - Demonstration "Edible Landscape" Herb Garden
Lewis and Clark Program @ Columbia River High School - Invasive Blackberry Removal and Habitat Restoration along Cougar Creek
Fort Vancouver High School - "Operation Sustainable Trapper" - Horticulture / Enviro ed center mural and habitat creation
Heritage High School - Biodiesel Trailer Improvements
LaCenter High School - Project Study Media Production showcasing environmental work done this year by the project study class
Legacy High School - Generation Green Earth Day and Beyond...Habitat Restoration around school and Environmental Education to school community
Skyview High School - "Wildlife Appreciation Project" School native species garden / nature walk
Ridgefield High School- Outdoor Recycling Centers
Columbia River High School - Columbia River Composting Project - Three-bin compost piles, and worm bins to aide horticulture program and ecology club
